What is a news feed?
A news feed is a small text-only feed that is produced when a site or an area of a site is updated.
If you get your daily news from several websites, this involves visiting each website to see if their content has been updated. If a site produces a news feed (also called RSS syndication or XML feeds), this will enable you to place its feed in a news aggregator (also called a feed reader). The true beauty of news feeds becomes apparent when you collect news feeds from several sources. It’s like creating your very own newspaper that delivers only the news you want to read.
But where can I get a news aggregator?
For those just starting out with news feeds, MSHC recommends Bloglines. Bloglines is simple to use and is web-based, making it the perfect tool for beginners. No need to install additional software and most importantly, it’s free!
What is the difference between XML file and Subscribe with Bloglines?
You will notice that we have two types of news feeds. The XML file is for advanced users who configure their own feeds within software. The Bloglines feed will add a direct subscription to your Blogline’s account.
