LILY NEILL Background:
Lily Neill is recognized as “…part of the new Harp revolution extolling aspects of harp music never previously heard” (John O’Regan, Irish Music Magazine, June 2005). She performs both her original compositions and the traditional music of Ireland and Scotland on the lever harp and developed her musical style from seisiún playing, an uncommon route for harp players, utilizing techniques from other instruments. Her music is both rich in tradition yet uniquely her own. Both her playing and the music that she writes draw from a diverse range of styles and her interpretations are inspired by her experiences working with artists from many different genres and backgrounds. Lily has won numerous honors, scholarships and awards for her harp playing, including first place as well as additional awards of distinction at the U.S. National Scottish Harp Competition for four consecutive years and a medal at the All-Ireland Harp Competition. More recently, she was named LiveIreland.com’s “2006 New Female Artist of the Year”.
“Without Words”, Lily’s debut solo album, has garnered an impressive array of reviews since its release. “Hot Press”, Ireland’s essential guide to music, gives “Without Words” an 8 out of 10 and writes of Neill: “The CD reveals her to be far more than the superb technician she undoubtedly is…”
THERESE HONEY Background:
Therese is “Honey on the Harp”, an award-winning harpist with an extensive background in classical and early music. She began her harp studies at age seven with Beatrice Rose, former principal harpist of the Houston Symphony. Therese specializes in medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque music on historical harps as well as in Celtic and other folk music of the British Isles on Neo-Celtic harp. She performs for audiences at festivals, conferences, workshops, and many other venues. Therese is also a well-respected harp teacher.
She also performs traditional music with an emphasis on Irish, Scottish, Welsh, and 13th-century music.
Hope to see many of you there! This is a great festival full of Celtic
music!
